Entangled – Avant Garde

"Entangled”

Material: Various stoneware clay bodies, ceramic stains and Terra Sigillata.

Technique: Handbuilt using coil and hand-forming techniques, combining different clay bodies with individually formed sculptural elements. Finished with layered Terra Sigillata.

Inspiration:
Part of my From the Depths series, Entangled explores the relationship between vessel and organic form. The mug has become more sculptural than functional, with dark, heavily textured layers contrasting with the warm interior and glossy red-black tendrils that appear to emerge from and wrap around the vessel.

The piece is inspired by the strange, persistent forms of life found beneath the surface — organic, unpredictable and slightly unsettling.
