Geoff Noble

Kaikoura local Geoff Noble grew up with a love of paint, colour and form. Beginning from the Waitakeres, West Auckland, at a young age, one of his Art teachers recognized his potential and helped him to nurture this passion.

Travelling around the South, after the school years, he ended up living and working out of Lyttleton and Christchurch through the late 90's. The art scene there was home to Geoff, developing solid style and he was part of a number of shows and public art projects throughout Christchurch, before abandoning the city life for Karamea.

There on the West Coast, Geoff worked on his first solo show at the Left bank gallery in 2002. Through out the next few years Geoff exhibited in various group shows at COCA , Red gallery, The Suter Gallery and a number of community shows.

Larger scale paintings increasingly emerged, and when Nelson became home in 2004, Geoff embraced this fully by setting up a old warehouse Studio in Tahunanui. Here he worked on his paintings daily for commissions and exhibitions. Most notably were the 3 Piece Exhibitions with Dean Raybould and Simon Hunter. Solo exhibitions were at the Fish Bowl Gallery 2012 the Nelson City Framers in 2019. Other successes include runner up in the 2012 NZ mural Art awards, first place in the art in windows (arts festival) won the Top of the South Art Award. (Impressions Art Awards)

Family life with a wife and children was busy and varied with other engaging pursuits such as Prop building for Wow and engaging in other 3D work with local artists, while working in the Art department at the local art school NMIT for 6 years. Coordinating the visual Arts aspect of the Nelson Arts Festival was also a busy time for a few years working alongside many friends in the community.

Currently Geoff resides in Kaikoura with his wife of 21 years and is working out of his dream studio over looking the Pacific ocean.
