Ty is a silversmith originally from Ashburton. He learnt the art of smithing from his mum Judy of Kouka Design who has been making jewellery for over 30 years and his work has evolved from watching her process. He makes contemporary wearable art in his pieces with a strong focus on geometric shapes, fine lines and textures. His inspiration is often drawn from the metal itself and some of his favourite pieces come from holding a raw segment
of silver in his hand. You won't find bright colours in his work- he likes to stick to a monochrome palate and instead lean into the way he forms the pieces. Primarily using sterling silver and sometimes a process of oxidisation. Recently his work has evolved to include a fused rubber process which has been quite successful. Ty currently resides in Melbourne with his wife Steph.
