Collection: Andy Waugh

Andy has been carving for over 40 years in timber, stone, and bone, predominantly working with river stone.

He has a lifelong passion for Māori and Pacific art forms, as well as New Zealand’s unique natural environment.

This blend of cultural influence and landscape is evident in his contemporary sculptural work.
All of the stone he uses is hand-sourced locally, its shape refined by thousands of years of movement through mountains, valleys, and rivers.

He feels most at home in his local environment, fossicking through rivers and mountains in search of ancient and unique natural forms. He considers it a privilege to reveal the beauty within each kōhatu and to create sculptures that retain the mauri of the stone.
