Sally-Ann Davies - Taupo
The natural elements, wind, rain and sun create endless variations of the same landscape. Sally's walks inspire her to capture the environment she sees through the experimentation of printmaking processes and techniques.
To create a particular scene, she experiments with different printmaking techniques to capture the different moods of the environment around her, from stormy clouds to tranquil waters. Monoprinting enables Sally to capture the light in the sky; collagraphs capture the texture of a rock through the transparency of water. Drypoint provides fine details of the twisting branches of a tree. The bold lines of woodblock printing define her work through patterns and contours within the landscape.
All Sally's artworks are original, handmade, limited edition prints. Each print is inked and printed by her, consequently, each image has its own originality, and no two prints are ever identical.
Sally grew up on a dairy farm in England and after leaving school she studied Fine Art at Liverpool University. She also achieved a teaching qualification before emigrating to New Zealand. Sally has always had vision problems through her life but overcame the challenges and in 2011 finally had cataracts removed igniting a new relationship with colour.
