Collection: Agathe Porlier - Paekākāriki

This jewellery collection is an exploration of the profound connection between nature and humanity through forms. Drawing on principles of harmony, balance, proportion and the feelings these elements inspire in us, a dialogue is created between equilibrium and movement, between the known and the undiscovered.

Trained as an architect and designer, Agathe has always been drawn to geometry, form, and how space and shape evoke human emotions. Honing her jewellery craft since childhood, this passion is clearly evident in her work.

This collection reflects the interplay between the divine proportions inherent in nature and the human artifacts we create. The harmony found in these objects awakens an ancient wisdom—hidden yet alive within us—and reconnecting us with the essence of ourselves and the world around us.

The choice of materials used in this selection of work: copper, brass, and sterling silver unify components into a cohesive whole, where each material retains its natural integrity and individuality while merging into a singular piece of art. The intention is to demonstrate how contrasting elements can coexist, echoing the beauty of nature’s diversity.

This series of jewellery is a journey toward rediscovering our intrinsic connection with nature and to one another, reminding us of the delicate balance and unity we share with each other and the universe as a whole.

Agathe handcrafts each piece of jewellery in her home  studio in Paekākāriki, New Zealand.

Her jewellery is inspired by the organic aesthetic of New Zealand landscapes. By using different materials like sterling silver, brass and copper, she reflects the natural colours of the sandy beaches, low grasslands and native forests of the country.

Trained as an architect and designer, Agathe has always been drawn to geometry, form, and how space and shape evoke human emotions. She uses circular forms in contrast with straight lines to deepen the connection to nature and remind us of the cycle of life.

We could qualify her unique jewellery style as rustic and delicate yet modern for every day use. Agathe's passion for jewellery started at the early age of twelve in France. She used anything that was around, mostly recycled materials, stain glass from the shore, wood, beads, or even electric cables to handcraft jewellery that she exhibited and sold in art markets across France.

In her early 20's, while studying design and Architecture, she started travelling and living in different countries around the world, including Chile, Argentina, Reunion Island and the USA, where she kept expanding her knowledge and experience of and passion for handcrafted jewellery.

Agathe moved to New Zealand in 2019, where she studied jewellery at the Dunedin School of Art. There she learned the traditional techniques of silversmithing that she now uses in her work.
