Toki - Rimu

Shannon Turuwhenua

Toki wall sculpture crafted by artist Shannon Turuwhenua of Past.Present.Future in North Waikato.

This Toki is made from reclaimed Rimu. It is in the shape of a chisel. The binding at the top represents friends and whanau. Traditionally made from stone the shape of the Toki was commonly used as an implement for carving and digging. Over time the Toki has evolved to have a more ornamental purpose.

Finished in Danish Oil. Black Cord. Reclaimed Rimu.
