A distinctive heart shape leaf, Kawakawa, from the Maori word Kawa, meaning `bitter', has been used throughout Maori history as a tea for medicinal purposes.  Kawakawa leaves are also traditionally worn after the loss of a loved one.

Sterling silver 1cm leaves, handpainted and hanging on sterling silver hoops 1.4cm in diameter.
