Kōwhai bloom limited edition Necklace - Laser Cut Single Use Plastic

Remix Plastic

Kōwhai bloom limited edition Necklace - made from laser cut single use plastic by Anthea Ibell of Remix Plastic

Laser cut from single use plastics including yogurt lids, ice cream lids and L&P bottles, these kowhai leaves and flowers are transformed from “rubbish” to our iconic native plants. Kowhai flower in spring, symbolising new growth, contrasted with the remnants of their previous life still seen on the plastic.

A lot of Anthea’s works are inspired by native fauna and flora - she has recently been pondering a lot on what ‘untouched’ Aotearoa would have looked like, sounded like and felt like. The cacophony of native bird song, the twisting branches of the Rātā, the illumination of the forest floor by Werewere-kōkako.
