Glass Kina Disc Earrings

Glass Kina Disc Earrings by Nick Feint, Stone Arrow - Golden Bay

Another beautiful design inspired from the natural world around us!  Kina Shells have such a distinctive pattern that is both simple and eye-catching, and lends itself so perfectly to our recycled glass disc earrings.  Our Kina Shell Earrings are made from glass cut from a recycled bottle, with an image of a kina shell pattern fused onto the surface.

Every step of the making is done by us here in the StoneArrow workshop, starting from core-drilling the discs from bottles, to being finished with handmade recycled Sterling Silver hoops.

Kina (sea urchin or sea egg) are important members of rocky reefs and are considered a delicacy to Maori.  The raised dotted pattern left remaining on the shells is where their fearsome spikes are attached when alive. They are endemic to New Zealand and can live up to 20 years!  Finding whole shells or even pieces are a beachcombers delight.
