Artist Statement - ‘Stepping-Stone’
The theme of softness, flexibility combined with form have been a strong thread I followed for a while in my newer works. The unassuming and simple nature of paper as an everyday presumed object. So is the everyday presumed blue Denim Jeans, in its many shades of blues and washed out tones.
Layering Archival Acid free Tissue Paper, limited to blue and white linear stripe patterns, placed organically, revealing underlying tones in clarity and washed out tones.
I researched traditional methods in Japanese paper culture and materials used, while simultaneously finding indigo dying techniques. For a long time I adored blue and white pattern in traditional craft making, from Ceramics, Textiles and Print making. For me blue and white patterns holding a striking freshness while it appears ordinary and simplistic.
‘Stepping Stone’ Series opened up a multitude of exciting takes and possibilities, exploring paper and colour further
