"I have been painting Ngati Pakeha Tiki for 20 years now in many styles and versions speaking to the complex ideas around Third Space cultural structure. This version is an abstract expressionist Tiki. That can be explained in a long winded academic construct about art style, appropriation, counter colonization and whatever but in the end it is simply a celebration of the Tiki. This example I hope encapsulates the kind of emotion we feel on a summers day in so many different places in Aotearoa, the Joie de vivre, the joy of existing, participating, living in Aotearoa New Zealand and we are blessed to do so. Nga mihi"
