Pencil and Watercolour on Paper
Along with the Tui, fantails (or Piwakawaka) are easily one of our most recognisable birds. They are commonly seen playfully fluttering between trees, using their characteristic tails to aid their twisting aerobatics when hunting insects in flight. Their cheerful chatter can also be heard in most areas with them easily adapting to a changed environment. This image was inspired by observations of a nest found in our garden and the balls of fluff that emerged and demanded to be fed every 10 minutes.
